D&R Simulation Engineer – FE

The D&R Simulation Engineer – FE will support vehicle programs within the Vehicle Capability and Dependability department by conducting Finite Element (FE) simulations to assess durability and robustness under extreme impact conditions (e.g., Sand Dune Impact, Step Down, Block Strike). The role involves developing and refining CAE methodologies, supporting design verification, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure vehicle performance targets are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform LS-Dyna Explicit simulations to evaluate vehicle structural integrity under extreme loading conditions.
  • Support the Design Verification Plan (DVP) by conducting risk assessments based on CAD and CAE analysis.
  • Assist in issue resolution from physical testing by providing CAE-driven insights and potential solutions.
  • Develop and enhance CAE modelling techniques to improve simulation accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create automated pre- and post-processing tools to streamline workflows.
  • Present findings at design reviews with stakeholders, including PAT teams, component designers, and programme teams.
  • Collaborate with offshore teams and internal customers to ensure alignment on simulation requirements.
  • Continuously improve virtual engineering tools and methodologies to enhance model robustness.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Timely delivery of high-quality CAE assessments to support vehicle programmes.
  • Effective risk identification and mitigation through simulation.
  • Development and implementation of efficiency improvements in CAE processes.
  • Strong collaboration with engineering teams to resolve durability-related issues.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in LS-Dyna Explicit simulations within the automotive sector.
  • Strong expertise in LS-Dyna solver and full-vehicle modelling.
  • Proficiency in CAE meshing tools (HyperMesh, ANSA).
  • Experience in supporting engineering projects with CAE-driven solutions.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of JavaScript for developing efficiency tools.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (3DExperience or similar).
